Today was our first day of school internship phase II. Govt. HSS Cherunniyoor is the school allotted for us. We a group of ten student teachers from English, Physical science, Mathematics and Social science were there. We reached the school at 9 am. When all the group members came, we met the school headmistress. We handed over the consent letter and signed the attendance register for the morning session. Initially we were allotted the staffroom - a workshop classroom of the school. But due to some hygiene issues, we were later shifted to another classroom as per the headmistress's comment. So that classroom where we will stay for the next few days.
The school routine began with the ringing of the first bell at 9.20am, followed by subsequent bells before the morning prayer. Classes officially started at 9:45am. I didn't have any class at the morning period. I spent the time observing the school environment and the student activities. At 12:30pm lunch break began. Some member of our group assisted in serving the noon meal, which included rice, payar thoran and sambhar.
My teaching schedule started in the sixth period. Then the school day concluded at 2:30pm followed by the long bell and the national anthem at 4:00pm. (Observe the school's exit gave me a better understanding of classroom management, the importance of flexibility and how the school organizes both teaching and non-teaching activities- Participating in these also highlighted the school's efforts to engage student in communal activities for a sense of responsibilities. Help me to adapt school environment and prepared me for active participationteaching from the next session. I learnt flexibility, observation and management in all school activities are important aspects of an internship. I look forward to gaining more hands-on teaching experience and learning from the staff in the coming days.
